Workshop Strengthens Cooperation in the Upper Indus Basin

The ICIMOD Pakistan Office, in collaboration with Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), organized a one-day workshop to share updates of the Upper Indus Basin (UIB) Working Group and developments on a new data sharing plan. The meeting, held on 13 December in Islamabad, aimed to strengthen cooperation as well as to discuss and finalize the upcoming field visit plan in close consultation and collaboration with potential partners. About 35 participants from partner organizations attended the workshop. 

Dr Amir Muhammad , former ICIMOD Board member and Rector of the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences in Pakistan, was the chief guest at the opening session. During the workshop, Dr Eklabya Sharma, Director of Programme Operations at ICIMOD discussed the workshop aims and objectives, and Dr Ghulam Rasul, PMD; Dr Daniyal Hashmi, WAPDA; Mehmood Akhtar Cheema, IUCN; and Dr Arun Shrestha, ICIMOD, presented ongoing activities of each institution. Dr Abdul Wahid Jasra, Pakistan Country Representative of ICIMOD presented the 2014 Upper Indus Basin (UIB) field visit plan for further discussions and feedback. The meeting was closed by Arif Mahmood, Director General of PMD, and Khalid Mohtadullah, Chair of the Upper Indus Basin Working Group.
