ICIMOD-UNEP-IUCN WCPA Side Event: Transboundary Cooperation for Biodiversity Conservation: A strategy towards an ecosystem approach for implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity and supporting adaptation to climate change

This joint event is being organised by ICIMOD in collaboration with UNEP and IUCN-WCPA. The aim is to develop a future strategy for the Hindu Kush-Himalayan (HKH) region by promoting Article 8(j) of the CBD (cultural diversity and biodiversity linkages) through transboundary biodiversity conservation using an ecosystem management approach. The event itself is being held to raise awareness among the international community of the importance and role of transboundary landscape and connectivity conservation initiatives in achieving global conservation targets. Transboundary biodiversity conservation and the ecosystem approach will be put in context as an adaptation strategy to climate change; and experience from the Kailash Sacred Landscape will be shared. The ecosystem management approach is being promoted for addressing climate change challenges.

The event is expected to include invited presentations from global and regional experts working on transboundary landscapes and connectivity conservation, together with a panel discussion with high level delegates from one of the transboundary landscapes of the Himalayas.
