The training will feature theoretical discussions and hands-on basic processing procedures using data sets from active radar systems to show the limitations and error sources of each processing technique. Participants will extract information from the original SAR observations and integrate SAR data into a Geographic Information System (GIS). Algorithms and scripts on parameteric and non-parameteric models will be shared with participants.

READ MOREhe Regional REDD+ Initiative at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICMOD), under the REDD+ Himalaya Programme, facilitates the REDD+ readiness processes of member countries Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Myanmar at various scales through capacity building and knowledge sharing. In Nepal, the REDD+ Initiative is working with the REDD Implementation Centre (REDD IC), Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation (MoFSC) since 2015.
READ MOREThe regional reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) initiative of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is working with ICIMOD regional member countries (RMCs) to support them in their REDD readiness phase. The focus of REDD+ collaboration is capacity development and technical assistance through the implementation of the South-South learning platform in the region.
READ MOREThis meeting is one of several activities organized in relation to the preparation of a Local REDD+ Action Plan (LRAP) for Ilam, Nepal. A series of past consultation meetings with local stakeholders for identifying problems and solutions to minimize deforestation, forest degradation, and enhance carbon have led up to this meeting.
READ MOREThe first draft of the Nepal REDD+ Strategy 2016 envisions a three-tier institution for REDD+ implementation. In addition to the central level institution—including the REDD+ Apex body, the REDD working group, the National REDD Centre, and the REDD focal desk—the strategy also envisages a REDD+ institution at the sub-national level.
READ MOREThe International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is supporting four countries (Bhutan, India, Myanmar, and Nepal) in the Eastern Himalaya in their efforts to contribute to climate change mitigation through reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, a mechanism widely known as REDD+.
READ MORESubmitting a national Forest Reference Level (FRL) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an involved process that requires understanding national circumstances that drive emissions (and removals) and the adoption of reliable and transparent procedures.
READ MOREUnder the technical assistance of UN-REDD/FAO, ICIMOD has been working towards implementing the District REDD+ Action Plan (DRAP) for Chitwan, Nepal, which was developed and endorsed in 2016. As part of this arrangement, one of the objectives is to propose a detailed work plan for an agroforestry cooperative network in Chitwan. ICIMOD intends to support selected cooperatives from Chitwan district to develop their own agro-forestry implementation plans. Eight hot spots have been identified and selected for this work: Korak, Padampur, Piple, and Shaktikhaur.
READ MOREBhutan has achieved very good results in the REDD+ Himalaya programme. This mission will validate them and see the results first hand. The country is mature in terms of programme implementation and has moved swiftly to use its budget.
READ MOREThe United Nations Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD Programme) is a collaborative effort between FAO, UNDP and UN Environment. It builds on the convening power of its participating UN agencies, their diverse expertise and vast networks, and “delivers as One UN”.
READ MORETransboundary landscapes provide a platform for collaboration among countries sharing similar landscapes divided by political boundaries to work together to conserve and develop these common landscapes. Several transboundary initiatives have been launched and are well underway in the fragile landscape of the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH).
READ MOREIndia’s National REDD+ Strategy is being formulated to meet the requirements prescribed by the UNFCCC. The strategy will also outline the process for developing three remaining prerequisites of REDD+: the national forest reference level, national forest monitoring system, and a safeguard information system.
