Understanding Climate Change and Enabling Climate Actions in the Hindu Kush Himalaya

About the event

Ministry of Population and Environmen (MoPE) and ICIMOD will co-host the event in collaboration with IPCC. It will showcase the Government of Nepal’s climate smart development as well as its national and local adaptation plans. There will also be sessions devoted to the IPCC 2016-2022 plans, the production of the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), and the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) findings, and how these are being operationalized in South Asia and the potential solutions. ICIMOD will present its climate change work and potential innovations for adaptation and mitigation, which will include relevant portions of the forthcoming Himalayan Monitoring and Assessment Programme (HIMAP). 

A special side event (10-13 April) will focus on sensitizing youth to these important environmental issues, including how young people may take climate actions in their own communities. The event will have sessions for interaction with business leaders, mountain communities, and the local scientific community. 

Geographical Scope

South Asia with particular focus on the mountain systems of the Hindu Kush Himalaya. Participants will be invited from all eight ICIMOD regional member countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan.
