Golam Rasul

Dr Golam Rasul  is a development economist with over 25 years of experience in development and research in South Asia in areas of agriculture, food security, natural resource management,  green economy, and regional cooperation. He has worked in government, academia and research and development  organization in different countries of Asia. Currently he is working at ICIMOD as a Theme Leader, Livelihoods.  Prior to his appointment as  a Theme Leader, Livelihoods  he worked as Head,  Economic Analysis Division at ICIMOD. Dr Rasul holds a PhD in regional and rural development planning from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. He worked for more than a decade in the Bangladesh Civil Service in different capacities where he was involved in the formulation and implementation of development planning and programming. Dr Rasul has been involved both in development work and in research. He contributed more than 150 publications in international journals, book chapters in reputed publishers.  He contributed top  peer-reviewed journals including: Agricultural Systems, Food Security, World Development, Environmental Science & Policy, Climate Policy, Regional Development Studies, Development in Practice, South Asia Economic Journal, Applied Geography, Land Degradation and Development, Journal of Environmental Management, Environmental Conservation, Environmental Management,  Sustainability: Science, Practice & Policy to mention a few.   His number of publications appeared as most read paper in respective journals. He served as coordinating lead author on chapter Food and Nutrition Security in Hindu Kush-Himalayan Region in Himalayan Monitoring and Assessment Program (HIMAP), a regional assessment of Hindu Kush-Himalayan region. He has sound experiences and sound skills in analyzing development issues, policies, strategies, and providing policy advice and inputs to national governments.  A number of his publications contributed to national, regional and global policy discourse. He is currently working on food and nutrition security, SDGs, adaptation to climate change, green economy, sustainable development, food- water- energy nexus, and regional cooperation in water, energy and food security in South Asia.
