Demchae Dem

Founder, Bhutan Association of Women’s Entrepreneurs (BAOWE)

Damchae founded and served as chairperson (now retired) for the Peldon Group of Companies, which pioneered steel manufacturing in Bhutan. Steelmaking was first introduced in Bhutan in 2003. Today, Dhamchae’s passion is female entrepreneurship and in 2010 she founded the Bhutan Association of Women’s Entrepreneurs (BAOWE) with the aim of helping marginalized people, particularly single mothers and unemployed youth. BAOWE works closely with other important regional women’s groups such as the SAARC Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs Council (SCWEC) (www.scwec.com), the South Asian Women Development Forum (SAWDF) (www.sawdf.org), and LDC–Watch (www.ldc.watch.org) in Bhutan.
