‘Tracking and Sensing through Android Robotics’ from Kathmandu’s 2015 NASA SpaceApps Challenge was named the ‘Most Inspirational’ in Global Competition of International Space Apps Challenge 2015. NASA announced the result on 16 May 2015 on their Website http://www.nasa.gov/feature/nasa-announces-winners-of-2015-international-space-apps-challenge.
At the International SpaceApps Challenge held on 11 and 12 April 2015, the winning team from Nepal team developed an application that enables users to explore and extract data from nearby objects using a mobile robot platform with smartphone sensors. For the global award, the team had to produce a short video describing the application.
In September, the team will join winners in other categories to attend the launch of SpaceX’s eighth commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.
One of the team members, Ashim Setoula, said that winning the global award has given their application a global exposure and has encouraged them to take their application further.
Three winning teams from the weekend event in Kathmandu were nominated for the global award. Kathmandu’s People’s choice winner Astroac also made it to the final round of Global People’s Choice award.
