Manisha K.C. is currently pursuing her master’s degree at the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. She is conducting her thesis on the Budhi Gandaki hydropower and reservoir project, testing the preliminary feasibility of the site. She has been involved in hydrological field research, conducting field surveys and studying river discharge. K.C. was also part of a field team that conducted meteorological analysis and studied CO2 concentrations at Lumle, Nepal.

Qiuhua Liang is Professor of Water Engineering at Loughborough University, UK. He received his DPhil in computational hydraulics from the University of Oxford in 2005. Before joining Loughborough in 2018, he was Professor of Hydrosystems Modelling at Newcastle University, UK.Liang has extensive experience in developing/applying high-performance computer models for predicting natural hazards and assessing their risks. He has worked as a principle investigator or co-investigator on more than 20 major research grants, including some international collaborative research projects in South/Southeast Asian countries such as Nepal. He has published nearly 200 research articles, including over 100 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals.

Rijan Bhakta Kayastha is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Kathmandu University, Nepal. He has 25 years of experience in Himalayan glaciology, glacio-hydrological modelling, and mountain hydrology and meteorology. He completed his MSc, DSc, and JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship from Nagoya University, Japan, and Max Planck Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Germany. His research areas include estimation of glacier mass balance, ablation, and current and future discharges. Kayastha also studies glacial lake outburst floods, floods, and related early warning systems.

Sunwi Maskey completed her MS by Research in Glaciology degree from Kathmandu University, Nepal. For her dissertation, she modelled the glacial lake outburst floods at Thulagi and Lower Barun in Nepal. Maskey has also researched the determination of the snow cover and snowline altitude variations in eastern and central regions of Nepal.

Yong Nie is a professor at the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, where his research focuses on glacial lakes, glaciers, and glacial lake outburst floods and their impacts and mitigation at different scales, especially in the Himalaya. Granted a range of funds such as by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, his team has been conducting studies in glacier and lake mapping, glacial lake outburst floods, and hazard reduction.Email: nieyong@imde.ac.cn
