Programme Officer Resilient mountain economies and landscapes (SG2)
Ajaz Ali is programme officer for ICIMOD’s economies and livelihoods work.
Ajaz has extensive experience of managing diverse development programs spanning climate change, disaster risk management, water resource management, technical and vocational training, and community mobilization.
This includes coordination with government organizations, various funding and implementing partners, academic institutions, civil society, and private sector entities to implement programs, networking, policy interventions and providing operational leadership across diverse settings.
Ajaz’s expertise lies in project cycle management, partnership management, monitoring and evaluation, financial management, report writing, and knowledge management.
Ajaz is a determined and self-driven professional with high management standards, committed to achieving results while fostering a collegiate and productive team spirit.
Ajaz is from Pakistan and he is working with ICIMOD since 2015.

How do you protect the pulse of the planet?
The HKH sits at the peak and the Indus basin is at the core of the HKH which serves as lifeline to millions of people. My work through ICIMOD within the Indus basin helps to protect the pulse of the planet from the peak to the core.
What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?
What I like about working at ICIMOD is that it provides me with opportunities to work with people from diverse cultures, countries and professions internally and externally also with different indigenous communities of the HKH region. I enjoy interacting and working with people from different cultures and disciplines and I appreciate working with partners which provides many learning and enriching opportunities.
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about working with grassroots level communities and particularly when it comes to working with mountain communities, I wish to do it for all my life. Since I was born and brought up in a mountain community, I always strive to work with these communities.
My qualifications
I hold a Masters’ degree in project management from KTH (Kungliga Tekniska högskolan) Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden and a Master’s degree in business administration from Agriculture University in Peshawar, Pakistan.
