Webinar

Developing an ecosystem for delivering sustainable energy services for livelihoods in Nepal

Venue

Online (11:00-13:00 Nepal Standard Time)

Date & Time

23 July 2021

Concept note

Developing an ecosystem

Background

Technology innovations require decentralization and customization to reach the targeted communities. Past innovations have focused solely on technology and have often overlooked processes around ownership, financial services, supply chains and service delivery. Energy is a key component for any modern productive infrastructure, and the lack of access to it often acts as a barrier to productive investments in rural and semi-urban areas. Decentralized renewable energy (DRE) and clean-tech solutions can effectively bridge such energy gaps. Therefore, there is a need to catalyze and enhance these missing ecosystem elements in order to highlight the linkage between sustainable energy and development, and demonstrate the capability of decentralized energy to transform communities.

In this regard, ICIMOD, through the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Capability for the Hindu Kush Himalaya (REEECH) Initiative and the SELCO Foundation, India, is organizing a webinar to share our understanding on the need to develop an appropriate ecosystem for delivering sustainable energy services in Nepal.

Objectives
  • Share findings on the state of innovation and technology; and innovations financing, policy, governance and skill development in Nepal
  • Present the programme proposal on decentralized renewable energy (DRE) powered sustainable livelihoods
  • Validate and solicit feedback on the findings
  • Seek expressions of interest from stakeholders on the applicability of the proposed livelihood programme

About the organizers

Since its launch in 2018, the REEECH Initiative has been working towards improved access to appropriate, and reliable energy services in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH), and safeguard the mountain ecosystem services through policy implementation, capacity development, knowledge management and awareness, investment, entrepreneurship, and innovation. REEECH aims to support its regional member countries in developing sustainable energy ecosystems for the uptake of integrated and inclusive energy solutions for productive end-use by mountain enterprises.

SELCO Foundation is an open-source, not-for-profit, charitable trust that strives to inspire and support champions of sustainability across the world. The Foundation works to bridge the gap in high-risk innovation and ecosystem development for underserved communities using philanthropic capital, and seeks to inspire and implement socially, financially, and environmentally inclusive solutions by improving access to sustainable energy.
