Background

As part of its Research into Use (RiU) component, HI-AWARE is developing a Climate Change and Adaptation (CCA) Matrix. The CCA Matrix is a tool to systematically explore, review and classify existing and ongoing adaptation measures and approaches. HI-AWARE aims to move beyond traditional criteria and include criteria related to the robustness of given measures during critical moments, their time horizons and flexibility. If and/or how an adaptation measure reduces the vulnerability of the poor is set to be an important criterion.

Objective of the workshop

Specifically, the workshop aims to:

  • Get feedback and input from stakeholders on improved classification of adaptation options.
  • Identify the most important criteria for policymakers and practitioners for evaluating or assessing adaptation options.

Expected outputs

  • Improved criteria for classifying and assessing Climate Change Adaptation options will be developed, which will in turn feed into the CCA Matrix, which will provide scientific understanding of climate change adaptation options in the Gandaki River Basin;
  • Filling in “gaps” in the current understanding of opportunities and barriers facing policy makers and practitioners in undertaking regional and basin-wide approaches to adaptation interventions in major sectors impacted by climate change.
