About the event

The Government of Nepal observes 23 September as the ‘National Conservation Day’. To celebrate this day and this year’s theme, “Bring out the conservationist in you”, we are bringing together multi-stakeholders of the Agro-forestry Project in this virtual platform to formally launch the partnership.

Multi-stakeholder Livelihood and Conservation Project, Far Western Nepal

The livelihood and conservation project aims to promote and implement sustainable environmental management, livelihood development, and agro-forestry activities in Sudurpashchim Province, Nepal.  The Kailash Sacred Landscape Conservation and Development Initiative (KSLCDI) within our Transboundary Landscapes Regional Programme aims for long-term environmental conservation, safeguarding of cultural linkages, and enhanced resilience of communities in the landscape. The KSLCDI is committed to mainstreaming sustainable ecosystem management approaches in the context of climate change adaptation, pushing for better planning and decision-making informed by scientific research and community participation.

Along this overarching objective, KSLCDI identified Baitadi district, Sudurpashchim Province of Nepal for piloting the agroforestry project in partnership with the provincial government, local communities, and the private sector. With the partners, the Regional Forest Directorate of Sudurpashchim Province, Divisional Forest Office of Baitadi, and Dabur Nepal, we are collaborating with the Taalkolla Community Forest User Group (CFUG) and the Shree Gwallek Kedar Women Cooperative on this project.
