Training, meeting
Clean Brick Initiative & Air Pollution Solutions Initiative
Lahore and Islamabad, Pakistan
26 November 2021 to 05 December 2021
As a part of the ongoing ‘Clean Brick Initiative’ funded by FCDO, we are jointly organizing a series of capacity building activities (training on zigzag technology, emissions measurement, and demonstration of initial brick firing using LPG) in Punjab, Pakistan in collaboration with Federation of Nepal Brick Industries (FNBI), Brick Kiln Owners Association of Pakistan (BKOAP), Ministry of Climate Change (Pakistan) and the National Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (NEECA) Pakistan.
The technical trainings at the brick kilns aim to strengthen the capacity of master trainers (brick kiln owners) so that they can provide further trainings to other brick kiln owners and workers on the conversion of traditional kilns into zigzag technology. We will also be demonstrating brick firing using LPG with an aim to introduce, promote, and raise awareness on this clean practice so that brick kiln owners and government officials can adopt this beneficial technology (cost and time saving, environment friendly, less drudgery). Through the emissions measurement training for government officials, we aim to strengthen their capacity to measure and monitor emissions from the brick sector in Punjab. This training is a part of the effort to upscale the zigzag technology and share good brick production practices from Nepal to other South Asian countries.
We will also be conducting meetings with government officials from the Ministry of Climate Change, NEECA, the Environment Protection Department, and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Lahore and Islamabad. With this, we aim to bring their attention to the progress in the brick sector and discuss emerging and existing issues, and hurdles for transitioning to a cleaner industry.
