Training

Training on HEC-RAS Flood Modelling

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) will be organizing a weeklong training on HEC RAS Flood Modelling for ICIMOD’s professionals and its implementing partner in Bhutan, the National Center for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM). The Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) in Davis, California developed the River Analysis System (RAS) from where the HEC RAS name derives. The training will be a mix of lectures and hands-on exercises on understanding the Phochu River Basin, Bhutan and is a part of a capacity-building effort under the Cryosphere Monitoring Programme-Bhutan (CMP-B) project.

Programmes

River Basins and Cryosphere, Cryosphere

Venue

K2 Hall, ICIMOD, Nepal

Date & Time

23 April 2018 to 27 April 2018

The session will include:

  • Basics of HEC RAS flood models
  • Hands-on implementation of the model and its stabilization
  • Assessment of model’s problems and solutions
  • Future scenario generation and recommended measures

CMP-B is a collaboration between ICIMOD and NCHM to implement long-term cryosphere monitoring and data collection in Bhutan. CMP-B has enhanced the competence of national partners through trainings on remote sensing and field-based data collection.

The event will be held on 23-27 April 2018 at ICIMOD, Kathmandu, Nepal. Participation is by invitation only.
