Manashree Newa is a Programme Associate for the South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE).

Previously, she worked as a Disaster Risk Reduction Young Leader’s Fellow at Siraha Municipality. She also worked in the waste management sector as a project lead for e-waste management and recycling at Blue Waste to Value.

Manashree holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from Kathmandu University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from King’s College, Kathmandu, affiliated to Westcliff University, USA.

Q:

How do you protect the pulse of the planet?

A:

I protect the pulse of the planet by using a menstrual cup and encourage all women around me to switch to one. It not only prevents a large volume of sanitary pad waste, but also makes our “period” period very easy going.

What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?

A:

I really enjoy the diversity, and the supportive and motivating environment here at ICIMOD.

What are you passionate about?

A:

I am passionate about dancing, and I enjoy reading self-help books. I also enjoy caring for my indoor plants.

My qualifications

A:

I completed my MBA from King’s College, Nepal with a specialization in technology and innovation. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Kathmandu University. Prior to joining ICIMOD, I was a DRR-fellow and an Environment, WASH, and Disaster Management Assistant in Siraha Municipality. I also worked as the Project Lead for E-waste Management and Recycling at Blue Waste to Value, and as a Research and Communication Associate at GUTHI.
