Sessions on the Hindu Kush Himalayan Monitoring and Assessment Programme (HIMAP).
Mountain Knowledge and Action Networks (MKAN), HIMAP
Kunming, Yunnan, China
06 June 2018 to 07 June 2018
The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) will participate in the Second International Mountain Futures Conference in Yunnan, China on 6–7 June 2018. Building on the success of the First Mountain Futures Conference in 2016, the event will give participants an opportunity to share knowledge and ideas with researchers and representatives from mountain regions around the world and to shape the future of the Mountain Futures Initiative.
ICIMOD will organize a parallel session and a special session during the conference to share key findings and policy messages from the Comprehensive Assessment of the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH), coordinated by the Hindu Kush Himalayan Monitoring and Assessment Programme (HIMAP) under ICIMOD’s regional programme on Mountain Knowledge and Action Networks (MKAN). The sessions intends to draw attention to a range of climate change-related issues specific to the mountains and how they affect the Hindu Kush Himalaya ecosystem.
The comprehensive assessment aimed to assess the current state of knowledge of the HKH, address critical data gaps, and increase understanding of various drivers of change and their impacts. The HIMAP assessment compiled and analysed the current science on the HKH to produce robust evidence to reduce scientific uncertainty and identify actions that governments, civil society, and development professionals could take to address challenges. The assessment involved some 300 researchers, practitioners, and policy makers and will culminate in a major publication with a reputed international publisher in the second half of 2018.
ICIMOD will also participate in a marketplace activity to showcase scientific information on climate change impacts, vulnerability, and policy measures and adaptation actions, with a special focus on mountains.
