INAUGURATION AND LAUNCH
Atmospheric Watch Initiative
ICIMOD Headquarters, Kathmandu
06 May 2022
The Atmospheric Watch Initiative (AWI), under our Regional Programme on Atmosphere, is organizing a half-day event to inaugurate the Khumaltar Air Quality Monitoring Station and launch the Air Quality Watch – Nepal Dashboard. In collaboration with the Department of Environment, Ministry of Forests and Environment, we have established state-of-the-art air quality monitoring stations with aerosol and trace gas measurement instruments. We have also supported the department in real-time data dissemination and communication to build awareness and inform decision making.
As part of our support to the Department of Environment’s efforts to monitor and understand air quality, AWI recently established a station at ICIMOD’s headquarters and developed a dashboard for Nepal to enable monitoring of air quality trends from multiple ground-based observatories and satellite-based model sources. The station will support the government’s efforts to monitor and understand air pollution trends.
