The Director General of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), David Molden, paid a courtesy call to Yu Hong, the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, the Nepali capital, on 6 March 2018.

During the visit, Molden introduced ICIMOD as a regional intergovernmental learning and knowledge sharing centre serving the eight regional member countries of the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH), and emphasized that China has been an important regional member country for ICIMOD. He also expressed the organization’s appreciation for the Chinese Embassy’s support of its work.
Ambassador Yu Hong briefed Molden about China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the progress made in China-Nepal relations in recent years. She expressed appreciation for the role ICIMOD is playing to promote sustainable and resilient mountain development in the HKH region.
Molden and Hong discussed and exchanged views on major issues of mutual concern, such as the development of mountain agriculture in Nepal, transboundary river management, conservation and development in transboundary landscapes, poverty alleviation in the mountains, mountain hazards along the Sino-Nepal Highway, and infrastructure development in Nepal. Both sides agreed to develop cooperation for conservation and sustainable development in Nepal and the HKH region.
Yu Hong arrived in Kathmandu as Chinese Ambassador to Nepal in November 2016.
