Ding Zhongli, an International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) regional board member from the People’s Republic of China, was elected Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) at the first session of the 13th NPC in Beijing, China’s capital, on 17 March 2018. The NPC is the top national legislative body in China. Ding was a member of the Standing Committees of the 11th and 12th NPC.

Born in 1957, Ding is a Chinese geologist and an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He also serves as the current chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, the Vice President of CAS, and the President of the University of CAS.
He has been serving as Chairman of the Chinese Committee on the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (CN-ICIMOD) since April 2006. CN-ICIMOD is the national representative of ICIMOD’s Chinese partners, with three offices in Chengdu, Kunming, and Lhasa respectively.
