Suman Sanjel is an Air Quality Application Development Associate for ICIMOD’s Action Area B: Action for Clean Air (SG1-AAB). He has been with ICIMOD since 2019, playing a key role in the analysis, design, and development of spatial and non-spatial applications for both web and mobile platforms. His responsibilities encompass both front-end and back-end development, where he has been pivotal in creating automation tools, server-side geoprocessing tools, and pertinent services to streamline processes. Additionally, he works with distributed memory parallelisation using the Message Passing Interface (MPI), shared memory parallelisation with OpenMP, and various aspects of high-performance computing (HPC) systems.

Suman has developed several key tools and dashboards, including: the Hindu Kush Himalaya Air Quality Dashboard; National Air Quality Dashboard for various regional member countries; the Watershed Characterisation System for Afghanistan; National Agricultural Drought Watches; the High-Impact Weather Assessment Toolkit; the Flash Flood Prediction Tool; and the Streamflow Prediction Tool.

Prior to his current role, Suman led the application development of regional and national air quality dashboards. He has also pioneered a GIS/RS application design and development.
