In a milestone for agricultural climate services in Pakistan, we have worked with our partners – the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) – to develop and launch the Agricultural Production and Climate Dashboard for Pakistan. The dashboard provides an integrated platform for data on agricultural production and practices and climate in Pakistan, and can aid evidence-based decision making and planning processes in the face of climate challenges.
The dashboard’s climate component provides access to near-real time weather conditions and four-month weather outlooks that can inform drought mitigation and management actions. The weather monitoring and outlook supports national- and local-level planning and agro-advisory services.
The information on crop production (such as yield and area under cultivation for specific crops) and agricultural practices (such as type of agricultural machinery used and type of irrigation available) can help short- to medium-term planning processes in agriculture.
The dashboard ingests weather and climate information from the National Drought Watch – Pakistan developed collaboratively by ICIMOD, PMD, and PARC.
The dashboard was launched during an experts’ consultation meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan, on 5 July 2023. Read the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s media release here.
