The overarching objective of the joint workshop was to create a platform for the private sector, government, development organizations and other stakeholders to share ideas on how they can collectively contribute in promoting sustainable mountain ecosystem goods and services. More specifically, the workshop sought to leverage the strengths of ICIMOD and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and stimulate the private sector’s interest in forming partnerships geared toward mountain ecosystem sustainability. It also aimed to highlight the social and environmental risks and opportunities for business in relation to mountain goods and services, as well as to create appropriate platforms for engaging business interests.
The workshop enhanced the corporates’ understanding about the importance of sustainable ecosystem services, their impact on their businesses and measures for tackling the risks. It also helped establish a platform for ICIMOD and the corporate sector to share knowledge of ecosystem goods and services. Areas of mutual interest and possible collaboration were also identified during the event.
