About HKH Springs

HKH Springs is an interactive online portal that provides information on spring’s location, discharge, socioeconomic parameters, and many more. The primary objective of DSS is to contribute to advancing spring revival solutions across the HKH through regional knowledge exchange. The system is based on the six-step protocol of springs revival and has two major aspects: Visualization and Decision Support. The DSS is expected to guide the decision-makers on various aspects of springshed management. It also offers tools to decision-makers to use the available information and develop a menu of measures for spring rejuvenation.

About Six Step Protocol

The six-step protocol is a comprehensive step-wise process for studying, managing, and reviving springs in the Hindu Kush Himalaya. It combines hydrogeology with social sciences and community action and can be used both as a research tool for generating basic knowledge and to prepare detailed local implementation plans for spring revival.

Steps Involved in six step protocol

  • Mapping Springs
  • Monitoring Data
  • Understanding Social & Governance Systems
  • Identifying Recharge Areas
  • Implementation Measures
  • Measuring Impacts
