Mahmud joined ICIMOD as Editorial Officer in October 2024. In this position, he refines and enhances the quality of ICIMOD’s written content, ensuring clarity and accuracy to improve its readability and impact.

Mahmud is a communications professional with over a decade of experience, specializing in editorial work and strategic communications within the humanitarian and development sectors. He is passionate about using strategic communications to drive positive change. Mahmud holds a Master’s in Instructional Technology from Yogyakarta State University, Indonesia, where he graduated cum laude.

Throughout his career, Mahmud has held leadership roles at international organizations like Action Contre la Faim (ACF), World Vision, and CARE International, where he significantly contributed to media management, donor reporting, and advocacy strategies while leading their communications departments.

Mahmud has a proven track record in editorial tasks, including producing high-quality written materials and overseeing content development processes. Notably, he was the Lead Editor for the photobook “Colors of Hope” and has produced many documentaries and donor reports. His expertise in crafting impactful narratives has led to many stories being published on the CARE Bangladesh website and the AHP website.

He was Chair of the DFAT-AHP Consortium’s Communication and Advocacy Working Group and played a crucial role in developing communication and advocacy strategies for high-profile emergency response projects. As the lead of ACF’s Communications with Communities program, his work on the Rohingya humanitarian crisis Joint Response Plan and his contributions to ACF’s Cox’s Bazar Strategy Development are noteworthy examples of his leadership.

His passion for environmental conservation and human development is reflected in his work at WildTeam, where he led communications activities. His dynamic, people-centered approach makes him an effective communicator who excels in building relationships and managing diverse teams.

Fluent in English, Bangla, and Bahasa Indonesia, Mahmud is excited to leverage his editorial skills and communications, advocacy, and project management expertise at ICIMOD. He looks forward to contributing to sustainable mountain development and human progress.
