The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) was profiled by TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries), in its Excellence in Science series, as an example of how nations can work together in creating research furthering sustainability and a cleaner environment.
The “Excellence in Science: Profiles of Research Institutions in Developing Countries”, is a series of books published by TWAS that explore the achievements of some of the South’s most successful science centres. The monograph on ICIMOD, highlights ICIMOD’s history and its efforts to help mountain people adapt to flooding and climate change and the organisation’s work after the 2015 earthquake in Nepal.
‘The result represents the power of international collaboration and science diplomacy, building extensive and detailed knowledge of the Himalayas and the rivers that flow thousands of kilometers from high-mountain glaciers to the Indian and Pacific Ocean’, the profile said of ICIMOD.
The monograph on ICIMOD was published in collaboration with the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS). TWAS and its partners have published 13 profiles in the Excellence in Science series since 2007. They are accessible here www.twas.org/publications/excellence-in-science
