Engagement
ICIMOD has a long history of engagement with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
Over the last two decades, we have proactively contributed to CBD processes, including developing approaches and recommendations for conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity for mountain development in the HKH. We have adopted and customized an ecosystems approach in designing and implementing the Transboundary Landscapes Regional Programme for biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, and wellbeing of mountain people.
In 2007, we were granted ‘observer’ status and since then we have been participating regularly in meetings and contributing to CBD processes such as the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) and Conference of Parties (CoP). In 2010, we actively contributed to the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB), SBSTTA and CoP. ICIMOD organized and contributed to side-events, plenary sessions, fairs, poster competitions, and facilitated networking with diverse stakeholders. We also participated in CoP11 in Hyderabad, India; CoP12 in Pyeongchang, Korea; and CoP13 in Cancun, Mexico.
