Fibre plants plantation and demonstration

We are proud to collaborate with Nepal Knotcraft Centre to establish a fiber plant species demonstration plot at our Knowledge Park, #Godavari. We received 20 seedlings of different fibers plant species such as Umbrella species (Cypreus alternifolius) and two varieties of papyrus species (Gulguliya and Gund) from Nepal Knotcraft Centre recently on October 20, 2020.

The Papyrus fiber plant species are also called Indian matting plants or Nile grass and can be grown in swampy areas or in shallow water. These are added to the cardamom orchard, bamboo plots and wild banana as additional fiber plant species. The stem and leaves of these fiber plants are used for mat making and other Knotcraft products.

Nepal Knotcraft Centre provides livelihood enhancement training to rural women’s groups for making different products from natural fiber plants. The objective of establishing this fiber plant demonstration plot is to raise awareness about the natural fiber plants and the vast variety of products made from these plants for our visitors!
