WATER
Kathmandu has long experienced a water shortage, forcing its residents to rely on water tankers and jars for drinking. Furthermore, customers have frequently observed contaminants in the water jars, which immediately affects people’s health and hygiene. Access to safe and clean water is still out of reach for many people, even in urban areas.
In Nepal, it is typical for households to have a system for storing rainwater, but this is a challenge given space constraints in city areas. Safaa Paani’s ‘vertical water tank’ system helps address the problem of drinking water availability and quality by providing a system that can be installed in homes with limited space.
The ‘Safaa Paani’ (clean water) is formed of nine towers, each with six three-litre bottles, attached to a PVC base, and is built in a modular manner to take up the least amount of area possible. These bottles are joined together to form a deposit-like structure. To make the water drinkable, a small sawyer filter is added to the end of the tap. It is a highly sturdy structure and takes up a small amount of space.
Users of Safaa Paani no longer depend on water jars for drinking water, which has resulted in cost savings. By upcycling PET bottles into inexpensive vertical water tanks, we are ensuring they are reused for a different purpose. At the same time, we are also able to generate employment opportunities for plumbers through the project.
Worldwide, there is a general issue with water scarcity. Due to its inherent scarcity, the solution is incredibly scalable. We are therefore optimistic about our ability to grow.
