The 16th Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), part of the UN Biodiversity Conference 2024, is taking place in Cali, Colombia, from 21 October to 1 November 2024.
As the first COP following the agreement and adoption of the new Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) in 2022, COP16 marks a critical juncture. ICIMOD, in its role as an Observer, has been proactively supporting the CBD Secretariat on regional activities and working with regional member countries for the implementation of set targets.
Despite its importance, mountain biodiversity remains underrepresented in the GBF. We aim to work with our member countries to address this gap and ensure recognition of mountain biodiversity, and its vulnerability to climate change and advocate for increased investment.
