The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29) will be held in November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The two-week global conference will bring together heads of state, climate experts, political leaders, young people, and civil society actors to collaborate on the urgent challenge of climate change.
Building on our past engagements at UNFCCC COPs, ICIMOD is gearing up for strategic and impactful engagements at the upcoming global climate summit. Following the breakthrough at COP 28, where mountains were mentioned for the first time, and the first-ever expert dialogue on mountains and climate change at SBSTA 60, COP29 offers a strategic opportunity to deepen the focus on mountain-specific climate priorities in negotiations. We also aim to facilitate high-level dialogues to promote advocacy and support for Regional Member Countries (RMCs) in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region.
