Workshop
HI-AWARE
Yak and Yeti Hotel, Kathmandu
10 August 2016 to 11 August 2016
(Scroll down for detailed agenda)
“Himalayan Adaptation, Water and Resilience (HI-AWARE) Research on Glacier and Snowpack Dependent River Basins for Improving Livelihoods” is a five year study that ICIMOD is leading with its partners in four river basins namely Indus, Upper Ganga, Gandaki and Teesta in the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region. The research aims at developing climate change adaptation approaches, and increasing the resilience of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the four river basins.
As part of HI-AWARE’s third work package, i.e. Research into Use, ICIMOD together with Practical Action Nepal is organising a one and a half day consultation titled “Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts in the Gandaki River Basin of Nepal: Putting Research into Use”. The event will take place between the 10th and 11th of August, 2016. The venue is the Yak & Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu.
The consultation aims to share and discuss HI-AWARE research with policymakers and practitioners. The aim is to identify and prioritze suitable adaptation measures for anticipated climate change impacts in the Gandaki basin. This national level consultation is in continuation of a series of local level stakeholder engaegement events that have been held Nuwakot, Rasuwa, and Chitwan districts of Nepal earlier this year.
Flip Wester of HI-AWARE(standing) and David Molden (center, sitting), Director General of ICIMOD, watch a TOUCH TABLE demonstration in progress.
With the help of the Touch Table as an interactive tool, the scheduled sessions will demonstrate integrateded data that has been compiled from HI-AWARE climate models and other available data for the Gandaki study basin. The Touch Table will be able to display this data while having identified priority areas along with adaptation measures. This would make this session a highly interactive and participatory process. The end result of this consultation will aid HI-AWARE researchers in customizing their research outputs as per needs and priorities.
The sessions will be divided into:
Day 1 (i) Understanding the Touch Table functionalities (ii)Touch Table application on theme of flood and drought (iii) Touch Table application on theme of agriculture and hydropower
Day 2 (i)Policy and Practice Panel and discussionon adaptation in Nepal
