Expedition and Glacier Monitoring Training on Yala Glacier, Langtang, Nepal

ICIMOD and partners carry out an expedition to Yala Glacier in the Langtang Valley, Nepal, as part of the Cryosphere Monitoring Programme, which is part of the Cryosphere Monitoring Programme and is funded by the Norwegian government . The training will be conducted for partner institutes of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Government of Nepal, Government of Nepal, Tribhuvan University and Kathmandu University.

Objectives

• provide practical training on glacier monitoring and basic mountaineering on Yala Glacier
• take glacier mass balance measurements and measurement network maintenance
• conduct black carbon and snow measurements
• download ground surface temperature data for the permafrost study
