Field expedition to glacier sites in Pakistan

About the fieldwork

We will be carrying out field expeditions to three glaciers – Shisper (Hunza), Hinarchi (Gilgit), and Sachen (Astore) in collaboration with our partner organizations in Pakistan, the Global Change Impact Studies Center (GCISC), the National Centre of Excellence in Geology, the University of Peshawar, and Karakoram International University.

Activities planned for the fieldwork include –

• Observing the surface elevation changes using the dGPS
• Installing the ablation stakes for comparative assessment of elevation-wise melt pattern under various debris cover
• Carrying out velocity measurement to support remote sensing results

The team will follow strict COVID-19 protocols during the expedition.
