The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), in collaboration with the Journal of Forest and Livelihood, is publishing a book with a collection of success stories from four partner countries (Bhutan, India, Myanmar, and Nepal) for the REDD+ Himalaya project. The project is a regional-level initiation supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building, and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), and jointly implemented by ICIMOD and the Deutsche Gesellschaftfuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

In Nepal, the project focuses on strengthening the capacity of actors for REDD+ implementation at the subnational level and also exchanging experience and mutual learning on good REDD+ implementation practices for South–South cooperation. The book compiles success stories in implementing the REDD+ initiative in the four countries. Gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) is important in achieving REDD+ targets as it is directly connected to drivers of deforestation and degradation, as the government has demonstrated through policies in the forestry sector. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) also recognizes gender considerations in the Safeguard Information System (SIS) of REDD+ countries.
