Background

As part of the Green Resilient Agricultural Productive Ecosystem (GRAPE) project, ICIMOD is taking the lead in implementing GRAPE Field of Action (FA) 2 – action research – in Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces of Nepal. The focus is on participatory action research and demonstration of proven climate-resilient agriculture solutions to minimise climate and socio-economic risks and vulnerabilities. The project places great emphasis on gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) for ensuring green and productive agroecological systems that supports mountain livelihoods and economy.

GRAPE FA 2 focuses on building resilience of agroecosystems through action research and production of knowledge to foster climate-resilient food production and enhance digital access for farmers (e.g., agro-advisories, weather forecasting, and market information services) in selected demonstration sites. ICIMOD strives to converge GRAPE FA 2 interventions with provincial government authorities and line agencies for their support and buy-in process during project implementation and its sustainability. We also aim to scale the approaches and innovative solutions developed under GRAPE by disseminating knowledge and engaging with the policy makers at the local, provincial and national level.  In this connection, this writeshop will be crucial to integrate learnings and best practices co-developed through GRAPE FA 2 in the Karnali Province Agriculture Development Strategy (KADS), one of the key government strategic policy documents for paving the roadmap to develop sustainable, inclusive, and climate resilient agriculture.
