River Basins and Cryosphere & Koshi Basin Initiative
Dhankuta, Nepal
27 July 2022 to 02 August 2022
This campaign aims to help conserve and revive water sources in the Nibuwa-Tankhuwa Watershed in Dhankuta, . We will plant around 50,000 seedlings/saplings of 15 different native species in different pockets of areas that we identified through field data analysis and stakeholder consultation.
We are organising this campaign in collaboration with Dhankuta Municipality, Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality, Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Office (SCWMO), District Forest Office, and Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN).
These efforts will complement the Nibuwa-Tankhuwa Watershed Management Plan (NTWMP), which was prepared following research and multi-stakeholder consultations between the communities and key stakeholders of the Nibuwa-Tankhuwa Watershed from 2018 to 2020. The plan builds on the sub-watershed management guidelines of the Department of Forests and Soil Conservation and adds to critical topics such as springshed management and institutional mechanisms for implementation.
The NTWMP primarily aims to assist decision makers and practitioners at the ward, municipality, basin, and national levels to understand the watershed’s status, problems, issues, risks, and opportunities, and to leverage investments for improving watershed management in both the short and long term.
