Date & Time

29 August 2019 to 30 August 2019

Recognizing that a regional framework on adaptation communication could help in the identification and adoption of potential indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) practices for climate change adaptation in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH), the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and ICIMOD in collaboration with Keio University, Japan, are organizing a regional workshop on adaptation communication. The workshop is a part of a collaborative project between ICIMOD and IGES initiated in 2018 on adaptation communication. The objectives of the workshop are as follows:

  • Discuss specific arrangements for assessing the effectiveness of adaptation programmes and actions in the HKH, including gaps and challenges
  • Explore the significance of ILK practices for climate change adaptation and their prioritization in formal adaptation planning and implementation processes
  • Discuss a regional framework of adaptation communication for ILK

Expected participants

The workshop will be attended by government officials, representatives from universities and research institutes, media personnel, youth representatives, and development partners from the HKH region and Japan focused on climate change action and adaptation.
