Workshops
ICIMOD seeks to increase scientific understanding of the HKH atmosphere and formulate mitigating solutions to air pollution challenges through its Atmosphere Initiative. Since its establishment, the Atmosphere Initiative, in collaboration with Nepalese and Bhutanese government partners (Department of Environment and National Environment Commission, respectively), has set up state-of-the-art air quality monitoring stations with aerosol and trace gas measurement instruments. The Environment Dust Monitor – model 180 (manufactured by Grimm) has been used as primary instrument for the measurement of PM10, PM2.5, PM1, and total suspended particles. These instruments require regular servicing and calibration to ensure the highest quality of data.

Everest Meeting Hall, ICIMOD
16 September 2019 to 20 September 2019
The Atmosphere Initiative is initiating a five-day regional training workshop to enhance the capacity of country partners in the operation, troubleshooting, and calibration of these environment dust monitors. This workshop will train nominated participants on the basic working principles of the instruments, daily operational aspects, maintenance, and calibration and troubleshooting.
The participants will receive hands-on training with the actual equipment, guided by engineers from the original manufacturers. Based on the learnings from this workshop, ICIMOD envisions future trainings on other air quality parameters such as particulate matter, black carbon, and trace gases.
The workshop will be attended by the officials from the Department of Environment, Ministry of Forests and Environment – Government of Nepal; Real Time Solutions; Pacific Group; Tribhuvan University; Kathmandu University; and the National Environment Commission, Government of Bhutan.
