The 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 11th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (CMP11) to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol will take place from 30 November – 11 December 2015. The conference will be held in Le Bourget, France. Located at the Paris-Le Bourget site, the COP is made up of three spaces: the Conference Center, the Climate Generations areas and the Gallery.
At this global gathering, ICIMOD will draw the world community’s attention to a range of climate change-related issues and their impact on the ecosystem of the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. ICIMOD, in partnership with the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), will be hosting two side events on the theme of REDD+, and Himalayan Ecosystem. ICIMOD will also have an Exhibit booth that will display scientific information on climate change impacts, vulnerability and policy measures and adaptation actions with a special focus on mountains, in addition to showing videos and documentaries of relevant thematic issues.
David Molden, director general of ICIMOD, will lead the delegation which will include senior managers and staff from programme and knowledge management and communication units. As an intergovernmental organisation with observer status accorded by the UNFCCC, ICIMOD will closely observe the main proceedings and negotiations that take place during the plenary sessions.
