Gender sensitivity training for support staff was held 14 October 2015 at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). Seven female professional staff and 12 male support staff participated bringing varied perspectives crucial in such training. Consultant and experienced trainer Pranay Rai, conducted the training.
The workshop’s aim was to promote an understanding of gender politics to create a more inclusive, accepting, diverse, interesting and productive workplace. Workshop content included understanding of social norms, one’s own identity and translations and interpretations of gender. ICIMOD policy on gender, inclusion and equal opportunity was also covered along with questions on processes, challenges and opportunities.
Participants were actively involved in designing collaborative and awareness-raising tasks as a key part of the learning process. The process ensured that participants related course content to the requirements of their jobs and communities and drew on their experience of dealing with gender related challenges in their lives.
