Our focus
With this, in 2020 the Atmospheric Watch Initiative will focus on studies that involve a higher level of social and scientific analysis, using multiple data sets, or combinations of field data, modelling, and remote sensing analysis. These studies are expected to help influence policies and strategies in the region.
The initiative is involved in identifying, testing, and piloting mitigation solutions; building capacity and outreach; fostering regional collaboration and building cross-border networks; and contributing to policy at local, national, regional, and global levels. We collaborate with regional partners to establish air quality stations/climate observatories that aid air quality planners and policy makers in our RMCs.
Our atmospheric stations provide world-class scientific data to generate new knowledge and improve understanding of atmospheric processes across the HKH. We also have computing facilities for regional air quality modelling and conduct field campaigns to comprehensively study atmospheric phenomena of regional concern.

Events around the HKH
We have a deep history of work across a broad range of issues enabling sustainable development in the complex environment of the HKH. We have been protecting the pulse for over three decades.
The mountains of the Hindu Kush Himalaya hold more of the earth’s snow and ice than anywhere beyond the poles.

My primary role at ICIMOD is to contribute to knowledge generation in the field of air pollution and atmospheric sciences relevant to the HKH region. However, it is also equally critical to ensure that evidence generated is put to use by relevant stakeholders.
