Koshi Basin Initiative
The Koshi Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Hub (KDKH) is a platform led and driven by its members to foster transboundary collaboration on disaster risk reduction and explore the interlinkages between science, policy, and practice.

The hub
The KDKH was developed collaboratively through a consultative process between stakeholders to address DRR in the basin as a multifaceted, interdisciplinary, and transboundary issue.
Water-induced hazards are quite common in the Koshi basin and often have transboundary impacts; upstream hazards lead to disasters in downstream areas, affecting millions of people.
Moreover, extreme weather events have cascading impacts and are expected to magnify in frequency and intensity because of climate change and environmental degradation.
Promote transboundary collaboration, understanding, and decision making across the Koshi basin through scientific knowledge and experience-sharing related to water-related disasters.
Use of knowledge by policy makers, initiation of joint projects among hub members, production of evidence-based solutions and recommendations by the hub, and exchange of knowledge and information.
Lack of informed policy and decision making and of scientific and local knowledge. Improved DRR requires the consideration of upstream/downstream linkages, which can be challenging.

The transboundary design of the KDKH Working Groups helps countries from across the basin address shared challenges.
Sharing data
The Koshi Basin Information System (KBIS) application allows users to view resources layers such as landcover, wetlands, and drainage networks in the Koshi basin.
News and features
The KDKH Secretariat housed at ICIMOD supports and facilitates coordination among members of the KDKH, and its Transboundary Working Groups and Country Chapters.
