Scientists have described the mountains of the Hindu Kush Himalaya as a biosphere on the brink.

We are also a region teeming with stewards of nature: Indigenous and local-knowledge holders, individuals, communities, heads of municipalities, policymakers, NGOs or pioneers of nature-positive businesses that are protecting landscapes and bringing back water sources.

Worldwide, there is mounting recognition of the contributions such diverse changemakers are making in the crucial work to halt and reverse nature’s decline.

ICIMOD is seeking to find these champions of nature in our region, reward their work, and accelerate their impact by raising their profile, through our annual Dr Andreas Schild Memorial Mountain Prize.
