Working with Indigenous and local knowledge holders is crucial to conserving mountain landscapes. It provides the systemic approaches needed to reconcile human wellbeing with nature conservation, and it is fundamental to creating just conservation initiatives. In this MRD Talk, researchers, Indigenous representatives, practitioners, and the audience discussed promising new practices as well as challenges. Key takeaways include the importance of coleadership and meaningful, respectful relationships. A recording of the event and a summary of key insights with links to resources mentioned are now available online.
The event was the second in the new MRD Talks series, which is organized jointly by Mountain Research and Development (MRD) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) as part of the PRIMA project funded by Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC).
