Gunjan Silwal, Research Associate for the Cryosphere Initiative at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), was awarded a fellowship to attend this year’s American Geophysical Union (AGU) annual meeting held in December 2016 in San Francisco, USA.
Silwal presented a poster on the ‘Application of CORDEX Ensemble to Simulate Climate Change Impacts on Flow Regime in the Upper Chamkhar Catchment, Bhutan’ during a session for Current and future Hydroclimate Changes. Her poster highlights how the flow regime of the Upper Chamkhar Catchment responds to different climate change scenarios using a glacio-hydrological model, a Modified Positive Degree Day Model, and a CORDEX ensemble Regional Climate Model dataset for Southeast Asia.
“Presenting my poster at AGU gave me opportunity to interact with experts in the fields of cryosphere and hydrology, and learn about where I can improve,” said Silwal. The forum provides young researchers a platform to share ideas with others who have similar research interests, and learn from each other.
The AGU fall meeting brings together science communities from across the globe for discussions on emerging trends and the latest research. It is the largest earth and space science meeting in the world. This year’s meeting offered an exclusive mix of more than 22,000 oral and poster presentations, a wide range of keynote lectures, and many formal and informal networking and career advancement opportunities.
