Dema Yangzom, an engineer from the Department of Hydro-Met Services (DHMS) in Bhutan successfully completed a three month professional exchange programme with the Cryosphere Initiative to learn the basics of ArcGIS, QGIS and conduct reanalysis of historical glacier in Bhutan. The exchange programme was part of the Cryosphere Monitoring Programme (CMP) in Bhutan which is supported by ICIMOD. During her three months with ICIMOD from December 2014 to February 2015, Yangzom conducted reanalysis of ICIMOD’s historical glaciers (1980-2010) of Bhutan. During her tenure, she identified hotspot glacial lakes of Bhutan based on the literature, four decade ICIMOD’s glacier data, and from recent Google images. Her findings were presented during the CMP Bhutan inception workshop held on 2 February 2015 in Thimphu, Bhutan.
