Strengthening Cooperation with Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry

In June 2017, the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on working together for the enhancement of mountain livelihoods and development enterprise, extending their mutual agreement for five more years.

Through this MoU, BCCI and ICIMOD agree to foster mutual interest to benefit mountain livelihoods and enterprise development in Bhutan and other ICIMOD member countries through mutual collaboration. BCCI and ICIMOD firmly believe that private sector initiatives plays a crucial role in developing sustainable and improved livelihoods through knowledge and regional cooperation.

The MoU was signed in Thimphu in the presences of officials from BCCI, colleagues from ICIMOD, private sector organizations, and other entities. This was followed by an interaction session with private sector bodies and other relevant organization from Bhutan. Naina Shakya, Partnership and Private Sector Specialist, ICIMOD, gave a keynote presentation titled “Building Bridges with Business: Ensuring effective and transformational collaboration development” and gave an overview of the various private sector engagement activities being conducted through ICIMOD. The roundtable interaction session helped ICIMOD understand the needs of private sector entities in Bhutan and identify possible areas of cooperation.

The interaction session was attended by representatives from BCCI, ICIMOD, Druk Horticulture Pvt Ltd, Youth Business Cooperative, Rural Enterprise Development Corporation, Tarayana Foundation, Eco Waste Solutions, Royal Society for Protection of Nature, Bio Bhutan, and Bhutan Alternatives.
