Ashmita Shakya is a Programme Officer for ICIMOD’s work on Reducing Climate and Environmental Risks. She joined ICIMOD in 2017, initially working as Programme Associate for the River Basins and Cryosphere programme and the Indus Basin initiative.

Ashmita is passionate about environmental sustainability and has dedicated her career to organizations working in this field. She previously worked for the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat) for over a decade focusing on managing administrative functions and financial resources to support organisational operations and programmes.

Ashmita holds a master’s degree in Business Administration.

How do you protect the pulse of the planet?

A:

I protect the pulse by practicing good environmental habits and by spreading every little bit of knowledge I have that could help protect and improve our planet Earth.

What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?

A:

The challenging yet motivating work environment is what I enjoy the most in ICIMOD. The challenges help me learn and the motivation keeps pushing me to achieve more. Besides this ICIMOD also has a pleasant environment where staff basic needs and facilities are carefully prioritized.

A:

I am an MBA graduate with a specialization in general management. I have over 13 years of work experience and prior to joining ICIMOD, I worked in administration and finance within the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Nepal.
