Pradyumna Rana is ICIMOD’s Climate Change Adaptation and Governance Analyst. He also serves as the Intervention Manager for ICIMOD’s global engagements. He specialises in policy and institutional analysis on climate change adaptation and governance. Pradyumna investigates how policies, laws, and strategies are developed and executed, and makes recommendations for their effective execution in the management of public affairs. This includes putting mountains at the centre of global research and policy discussions. He has been with ICIMOD since 2011, holding various portfolios.

Pradyumna has a master’s degree in environment, development, and policy from the University of Sussex.

How do you protect the pulse of the planet?

A:

I protect the pulse of the planet by influencing policies and people’s behaviour through my work. At a personal level, I am trying to follow a minimalistic lifestyle – using greener means of transportation and local produce.

What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?

A:

The multidisciplinary and multicultural work environment is something I really like at ICIMOD. Additionally, field travel for research to very distant and remote areas in the mountains is something I really enjoy and find exciting.

What are you passionate about?

A:

I love food, music, and the outdoors, which includes a lot of travelling, team sports and the environment.

My qualifications

A:

I have a postgraduate degree in environment, development and policy from the University of Sussex, UK and an undergraduate degree in development studies from Kathmandu University, Nepal.
