Programme Associate Regional action and global advocacy (SG3)
Rekha Thapa is a Programme Associate for Strategic Group 3: Regional Action and Global Advocacy. She supports efforts to enable regional and global mechanisms for sustainable action. In her role, she coordinates, manages, and provides administrative, financial, and logistical support for ICIMOD’s events, meetings, and conferences.
Rekha has been associated with ICIMOD since 2012 and has contributed to the Mountain Knowledge and Action Networks Regional Programme, HIMAP, and HI-AWARE.
She holds a master’s degree in Sociology and is pursuing MBS from Tribhuvan University.

How do you protect the pulse of the planet?
Through my work, I support our institutional and programme-level efforts to protect the pulse of the planet since we are all aimed together to bring policies, awareness, and positive effects across the HKH region.
What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?
The working environment, working with people from many different cultures and the supportive infrastructure of the office.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about learning new things and listening to music.
My qualifications
I have over 10 years of experience working in administration and programmatic units, including previous work experience with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal (UN-OHCHR), Plan International Nepal, and the Social Development and Promotion Center (SDPC). I hold a Bachelor’s degree in rural development and a Master’s degree in sociology and anthropology from Padma Kanya Multiple Campus, Kathmandu. Apart from this, I hold a diploma in community development from the New Era Development Institute (NEDI), Panchgani, Maharashtra, India and I have taken several trainings on Human Rights monitoring skills, child care development, and research methods.
